Won driving; second and third the same. THIRD BROTHER, nicely steadied until settled into the backstretch, was then lightly shaken up and rushed to the leaders from the outside at the half-mile, then responded to a steady drive and drew away through the stretch run. BARDSTOWN broke well and was immediately taken under strong restraint, being rated along with Hartack timing his moves in company with the pace-setting RICCI TAVI. BARDSTOWN was headed by THIRD BROTHER between calls at the three and one-half furlongs marker before his rider put him to pressure and he regained a brief advantage saving ground on the turn, then tired and could not keep up, despite punishment, in the stretch drive. RICCI TAVI saved ground and was repeatedly taken in hand to be reserved for the first half-mile, then he, too, could not recover in time to meet the early challenge from the winner, and weakened under pressure thereafter. MR. FIRST raced up . between RICCI TAVI and BARDSTOWN going to the first turn, but could not keep up after settling into the backstretch and was outrun. CEDRUS appeared overmatched. MORATORIUM raced in the clear closest to the pace, gradually wore down NINA GIRL under pressure, and held on under a hard drive to maintain his advantage. LUCKY LUPE came to the outside and loomed boldly for the drive, but hung. ARRANT BULLY, probably best, was knocked back by NINA GIRL leaving the gate, then was closing strongly when run into a blind switch behind NINA GIRL on the stretch turn, found narrow room next to the rail for the final run and hung. NINA GIRL swerved in at the break, brushing ARRANT BULLY, then sprinted away to an exceptionally long lead and was done after six"furlongs. SHANSKY was not a threat. DELOVABLE was hampered by a loose hind bandage during the final run. Scratched 16381 Sky Merchant, 110. Overweight Sea Poise, 3 pounds. Moratorium claimed by Mrs. H. H. Hecht, trainer D. Emery.
