PAWTHCKET STAKES CLOSING Eight Features and Rich "Special Close Monday, May 27. , 1 Racing Secretary Pat Horgan at Narragan-sett Park to Receive Entries Juvenile Opportunities. PAWTUCKET, R. I., May 25. Attention, all horsemen! Eight stakes for the first summer meeting of sixteen days at Narra-gansett Park, and the "Narragansett Special," to be run at the second summer meeting, close Monday next, May 27. Supplementary nominations, at an increased fee, may be made for the "Special" up to July 15, but Monday midnight, the 27th, is positively the deadline for stakes at the first meeting, which opens June 19. The eight stakes total 7,500 added money, the "Special" 5,000 or 0,000 added, dependent upon the starters. The outstanding stake of the first meeting is the Rhode Island Handicap, one mile and three-sixteenths, three-year-olds and over, 0,000 added. Second running, won last year by Discovery, in worlds record time of 1:55. Next in importance are three stakes of ,000 added, the Narragansett Handicap, six furlongs; the King Philip, one mile and a sixteenth; the Governors Handicap, one mile and a furlong all for three-year-olds and over, and all being run for the second time. Chinese Empress won last years Narragansett Handicap from Red Wagon and Trumpery. Hadagal won the King Philip Handicap from I7ark Secret and Roustabout, and the Warren Wright colt was again in great form in the Governors Handicap, which ha won from Cleves and the Brookmeade Stables Good Goods. Two-year-oltfs have their opportunity in the Old Colony, an allowance race with ,000 added, the Watch Hill, a claiming stake with ,500 both over the five furlongs route. There are also two claiming stakes for three-year-olds and over, the Gas-pee, at six furlongs, and the Fort Adams, at one mile and a sixteenth each carries ,500 added money. Racing secretary Pat Horgan is now at Narragansett, ready to accept nominations or to despatch stake blanks on request. This is the last call for the first summer meeting at New Englands popular race track.
