BURY OPENS OMAHA OFFICE , Begins Work of Registering Horses for Coming Meeting. Expects Five Hundred Horses to Be on Grounds by Next Thursday, Opening Day. OMAHA, Neb., May 25 Racing secretary Gene Eury arrived Thursday morning from Aurora, after visiting several tracks on a "good will" tour soliciting horses for the thirty-one day meeting begininng at Ak-Sar-Ben next Thursday and running through io July 4. Bury opened his office Friday morning and trainers began registering their horses -for the coming meeting. More than 250 thoroughbreds are now quartered here nd Bury expects to have 500 on the grounds for the opening. i According to Bury, he has promises of five. 6r six cars from Aurora, which will include the horses of such prominent turfmen as A. G. Tarn, Sam Gorbet, H. O. Simmons, J. TJmensetter, E.. S. Patton, J. D. Larkins Hickory Farm Stable, L. Dilger and many Others. The only arrivals to reach the local track Thursday were the horses of J. L. Hylton, ho shipped seven head from Douglas, Wyo., and a car coming from California, which included eleven for D. Cox, two for J. J. Feeney, a like, amount for the account of $. R. Windsor, while Art Battroff had one. Two more cars are expected from California the latter part of the week, while the Three Rs Stable, consisting of fourteen, is due to unload some time Friday. X The G. F. Jenkins stable is expected to unload at Omaha Sunday with tweive from Dallas, while several others are expected to make up the balance of the shipment from Fair Park. Track superintendent Jimmy Ronin is busy bedding down stalls for the expected arrivals and he and his crew have been working the stables all week to make it as comfortable as possible for the housing of the late arrivals. ; Dr. Frederic W. Ashe, Brooklyn veterinarian, who will serve as presiding steward, Will arrive Sunday. Ak-Sar-Ben officials have spared ho expense in dressing up the plant,, idle since 1929. Work is about completed on the six-furlong chute, while starter Jack Hodgihs and his crew is conducting daily school work for green and rambunctious horses. ; W. T. Schellberg, chairman of Ak-Sar-Bens racing committee, is more than "pleased with the manner in which things are shaping up here and predicts a successful meeting. 4
