MARIE JEAN, much the best, was forced back sharply after the start, recovered quickly, was taken into contention gradually, took command in the stretch and won going away. SWEET MEMORIES began slowly, rushed to the front approaching the stretch, continued gamely to the final sixteenth, where she gave way to the winner. WANOAH, a strong factor for five-eighths, lost ground thereafter. EL BANDIDO closed gamely from a slow beginning. CAPTAIN HENRY raced well for a half mile, then tired. JOHN -.MARCUM had early speed. LADY LAURA began well, but lacked speed after a half mile. ROLANDA bolted to the outside at the start and was outrun. Overweight Wanoah, 2 pounds; John Marcum, 2; Lady Laura, 4. LINE DRIVE attained a prominent position, quickly raced PRINCE FELLOW into defeat, then drew out to win with something left. JOHNNY TIGHT, away in stride, maintained a forward position under mild "pressure, responded gamely to punishment, but could not withstand the winner. PRINCE FELLOW closed gamely after giving way to the winner. OUR BUD gave a good performance under a hustling ride. MANHATTAN could not improve his position under pressure. CHI CHI was outrun. CHARLIE JR., taken in hand for the early racing, moved to the lead when urged, continued under occasional pressure and was subjected to punishment to withstand the rush of MISS VINCE. The latter, slow to get going, gained steadily, offered strong contention in the closing stages and was wearing down the winner nearing the finish. JODA, prominent throughout, held on with good courage under punishment. AMERICAN BELLE took command after, the start, continued well thereafter and closed gamely. FELAWAKE forced the pace for threo-quarters, then tired. ATHANETTE was outrun. DONNAHONA failed to reach contention. PRINCE FLUZ showed nothing. The latter offered strong contention from the. beginning and held on well in the, drive. MAINTENANCE raced evenly -under strong pressure. CONASTANTO finished resolutely. BETWEEN BELLS had no .excuse. OTHERWISE, rushed to the front soon after the start, set the pace under clever rating, responded gamely to punishment, but tired in the closing stages and was giving way to the determined bid of SEMESTER. The latter, away fast, lacked speed but was never far back, improved his position in the stretch and, giving a game, response to strong riding, was rapidly wearing down the winner nearing the finish. JAKE BLIEDEN, on the inside most of the way, was forced to ease at the end when racing strongly and probably would have been more formidable with clear passage. BABESON tired. LATE DATE, shuffled back after breaking fast, was brought to contention gradually, was taken to the middle of the track in the stretch, subjected to severe punishment, overhauled the leaders and won drawing clear.. OPEN HEARTH, rank at the post, broke from outside the gate, raced to contention early, offered strong opposition, but was not good enough. FLINT SHOT came over sharply at the start, causing a jam, took command soon after, continued well thereafter and held .on gamely in the drive. FIJI broke quickly, but was forced back sharply when caught in a jam and failed to be dangerous thereafter. SAFE AND SOUND weakened after reaching contention. SUMMIT HILL also came over sharply at the start, causing interference, raced well up for a Half mile, then quit. VITAMIN B. went well for three-quarters. BEAVER DAM would not extend himself. SALLIE GRAY, on the inside throughout, gave improved speed when urged strongly and closed gamely, but was no match for the winner. GALLIC improved his position gradually, but was no threat. HIDDEN DUST raced to a commanding lead early, then weakened. DOUBLE NUGGET went welhfor a lialf mile. LITTLE BROOK broke well, but lacked speed. The others were far back throughout.
