LONGDENS RIDING FEATURES Leading Jockey of New England Sector in Limelight at Suffolk. Registers First Triple of Meeting, Completing Feat on Ebony Lady in Main Race. BOSTON, Mass., June 22. Johnny Long-den, the leading rider of the New England sector, scored the first riding triple of the Suffolk Downs meeting today, completing this feat aboard the heavily backed Ebony Lady in the featured Swampscott Purse, at a mile and a sixteenth. Previously he had ridden Queen Full and Blue Day, both of which were also well backed. The two other winners had carried the silks of A. G. Tarn, and Ebony Lady scored in the colors of Percy M. Pike. Longden had to use all of his vaunted stretch riding ability to land Ebony Lady home. Miss Careful was closing fast on the dusky coated Flying Ebony mare, as they passed the judges, and at the end the even money choice had only a neck to spare over the W. Elliott campaigner. Mrs. H. J. Mohrs Bobs Boys finished third, a neck behind the runner up and Happy Helen was fourth in the field of half a dozen. The latter was coupled with Swamp Angel as the H. H. Brown entry. Happy Helen broke fastest, but was quickly overhauled by Bobs Boys, and the latter set the pace around the turn, holding the lead until they reached the middle of the backstretch. Here Longden moved with Ebony Lady coming from third position to take the lead. The Flying Ebony mare drew clear of her rivals down the backstretch, but on the turn Ken McCombs came driving up with Miss Careful and was within a neck of the pacemaker as they reached the head of the stretch. From that point home the pair were closely locked, but under Long-dens hard driving ride, Ebony Lady managed to retain her narrow advantage. Bobs Boys was tiring at the end, but was some eight lengths in front of the fourth horse. Nothing else was ever there or thereabouts. The race was run in 1:44 5. The sport was decided over a lightning fast track and under sunny skies. Form players had a field day, choices and well supported horses scoring with regularity. Continued on thirty-eighth page. LONGDENS RIDING FEATURES Continued from first page. Paul Junior, which ran an excellent race to finish second to Miss Subway, Saturday, went to the post at 15 to 1 in the second, abnormally long odds. The Mrs. P. A. Shaw campaigner proved he deserved more consideration by coming home on top, a length and a half ahead of Mrs. A. P. Doyles Spit-tenimage. W. Elliotts Sylvia G. was third in the field of nine and Byrdex finished fourth. Queen Full, winner of her last start at Detroit before shipping here, made it two in a row when she sprinted home under the jacket of A. G. Tarn in the five-furlong dash that was .third on the program. At the end the Jack "High filly was a length and a half in advance of J. U. Grattons Smoke Maid, with the fast-closing Toothpick, from Cary T. Graysons stable, third. The latter had only a nose to spare over Springs Here at the end. Miss L. C. Whites Good Omen, ridden by Ray Hightshoe, set virtually all of the pace in the sixth on the card and raced past the judges a length in front of E. T. Burkes Millimeter. C. V. Whitneys Capuche was third, beaten a head for the runner-up award. The winner was ridden out to score, but appeared to be in danger only on the turn.
