I DETROIT TURF NOTES t S s J. Tommy Taylors Planetoid will remain here to fill her engagement in the Woodward Stakes, the one of two features to be offered closing day, Saturday, July 4. Jockeys Willie Saunders and Johnny Mat-tioli, who rode Hollyrood and Sparta in the Chicago Derby, were in colors Monday afternoon. They returned here Sunday. Jockey Kenneth Hoffman had his first engagement of the meeting when he rode OBantam in the fourth race Monday. Noel Chillcutt, one of starter Eddie Thomas assistants, flew to Seattle Sunday. He will substitute for Thomas for the first three days of the Longacres meeting. J. G. Angner has been schooling Helios in blinkers, and worked him with a double runout bit between the races Saturday. The horse showed no disposition to run out either leaving the gate or in working, and the stewards have authorized the racing secretary to accept his entry. E. F. Seagram and his party went back to Toronto Saturday night, but announced that they would return for the Pontchartrain Handicap Saturday, in which Stand Pat will carry Mr. Seagrams colors. The horses of Connie Smythe arrived from Toronto Monday. Former jockey Jimmy King, who has been very successful since entering the owners and trainers ranks, acquired two horses this morning when he purchased Nedvive and Lovito from Mrs. A. M. Creech.
