I HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES j $ Howard Wells loaded the large string he had campaigned here since the opening and got away Sunday for Latonia. Following the close of the Latonia season, Wills plans to invade New York with a formidable stable. His young rider, R. Dotter, reports to the stable at Latonia Tuesday morning. In the shipment from Hawthorne to the Kentucky track were the following: Bistrita, Prince Gay, Schuie, Marica, Lucy T., Pharo-lar, Burnt Trail, Desgai, Mt. Sard and Mary Soulard. Before leaving Detroit Saturday, M. Fernandez disposed of the contract on John Howe to H. Trotsek, trainer of the O. H. Woodward horses. Howe has ridden only two races but is regarded a good prospect. Trainer E. L. Fitzgerald has Toro Nancy, Sir Oracle and Fair Lead returned to Arlington Park where others of the N. W. Church stable have been quartered since their arrival from California. Jockey Les Balaski returned from Detroit and filled one engagement here Monday. At Detroit Saturday he piloted one of the Milky Way Farms Stable starters in the Moslem Temple Stakes. Continuing a rapid recovery from painful injuries received in a fall at Hawthorne two weeks ago, jockey Frank Mauro visited the west side track during training hours Monday morning. He may not resume riding for several weeks. t
