1 FAIL OPENING AT DETROIT CHANGED TO AUGUST 22 j DETROIT, Mich.. June 22. Clarence E. Lehr, president of the Detroit Racing Association, today authorized Joseph A. Murphy, director of racing, to announce that the dates for the fall meeting had been set back one week and that the meeting would run from August 22 to September 19, inclusive, twenty-five, days of racing. This was done after a careful survey of the situation and at the request of a number of horsemen, many of whom wish to race at Thistle Down which will close August 15, and some of whom also are shipping to Chicago and wish to remain during the Arlington Park and a portion of the Wash ington Park meeting. This will give a full week between the closing of Thistle Downs and the opening of the fall meeting, and it will also avoid any material conflict with the Maryland meeting, which opens the middle of September. An attractive list of stakes which are now being drawn up will be offered for the fall meeting.
