FEAR KENTUCKY GRASS FIRES Numerous Farm Owners Plowing Wide Strips of Land Along Railroad Right of Way. LEXINGTON, Ky., June 22. The unseasonable dryness in this section is causing apprehension on the farms particularly those along railways, lest there be grass fires of such proportions as to endanger buildings. Some of the breeders of thoroughbred horses have taken the precaution to plow under wide strips of grass along the railways to avoid fires from the engine sparks. Max Hirsch is expected here this week from New York to make an inspection of horses in which he is interested. Earl Smith of Valdina Farms, is expected here from Hondo, Texas, about July 1. He is recovering from mumps. He reports that fifty mares were bred the past season to Osculator and Sortie. At Valdina there are twenty-one foals and twelve yearlings. Sir Emerson is doing nicely at Valdina after having been fired.
