HOWDOINO, saved in the early running, camo fast to find an opening on the stretch turn and, dashing to the front, drew out in the final eighth to win in hand. TANNHAUSER was close to the pace all the way and, though racing wide on the stretch turn, finished gamely. BLUE SHEETS moved up strongly on the outside on the far turn, but was forced wide by TANNHAUSER on the stretch turn and could not hold the latter safe. JOLITO was used up setting the nace and tired in the stretch. CRIMSON GLORY and SWEET BETTY also tired. QUIBBET was never prominent. Overweight Tannhauscr, 1 pound; Sweet Betty, 1. FIFTH RACE 1 MILE. BONICON raced to the front early, was well rated, opened up a good lead on the back stretch and, saving ground, was never in serious danger, winning handily. DELINE BANK, never far from the pace, responded gamely to urging in the stretch and was racing nicely at the finish. PRINCE HEATHER made a brief bid approaching the stretch turn, then tired. MARGIEBELL was well up in the early stages, but tired. HOWDEN dropped back in the stretch. FARQUHAR was never a serious contender. GREEN FLAME was outrun and pulled up sore. PARTY SPIRIT lacked early speed and was badly outrun for half the distance, then came fast to finish with a rush and catch ROCK X. and OUR CREST in the closing strides. ROCK X., never far away, responded gamely to urging in the stretch and wore down OUR CREST to be second in the final stride. OUR CREST went to the front at once to open up a good lead and saved ground in the stretch, but tired in the final eighth. LITHOROME had no excuse. GALLACLAY was forced to race wide and tired. WEGOWAY was always within striking distance of the leaders and, coming fast on the outside through the stretch, wore down VESPASIANO to get to the front near the finish. VESPASIANO raced through an opening on the first turn to take command and withstood a challenge from BOSTON MARY on the back stretch, but, although resisting a bid from WINGSPREAD in the stretch, could not last to hold the winner in check. WINGSPREAD moved up strongly approaching the stretch turn, but could not get to the front although going well at the finish. NOBLE COUNT made a strong move on the inside nearing the stretch turn, but was caught in close quarters and could not find racing room in the stretch. BOSTON MARY had speed for a half mile, but raced wide and tired. The others could not keep up. Overweight Boston Mary, 1 pound. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-8 MILES. Don Roberto, May 29, 1937 1:50 4 107. COLDWATER, sent to the front early, attained a commanding lead, continued in the van under clever rating, responded gamely when shaken up and held sway to the finish. BALTIMORE BOY, slow to attain his best stride, gained steadily after going three-quarters and offered a bold hid, but was not good enough. McCARTHY improved his position gradually and closed gamely, but could not menace the first two. SIRGAY, never far back, moved to the leader approaching the stretch, but tired in the closing stages. NORLANDA quit. PAYNE had no excuse; MARVEL PLAY was outrun. SHALOT was outclassed. UNDULATE showed nothing in a poor performance. NINTH RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute.
