BAY MEADOWS NOTES t $ Former jockey Carl R. West, who is racing a small stable at Bay Meadows, will probably join the Silver State Stable, when owner A. A. Baroni sends the seven head he rested at Santa Anita to Tanforan for that meeting. E. W. Granger, Wednesday purchased the distance runner Unkie Tom, and Pharolar, from R. C. Thatcher. W. A. McKinney has been engaged to train the pair. Following the running of the second race Wednesday it was announced that the four-year-old Sorrel Top had been barred by the stewards and it was further recommended to the California Horse Racing Board that the animal be barred for life. Sorrel Top, which is owned by the R. C. Stable, refused to break with the others. It was the fifth time in the last eight starts that Sorrel Top had been left at the post The horses of P. Fuller, Texas patron arrived Thursday morning from Agua Caliente in charge of trainer W. C. Merrick. There were five in the shipment, with four more to come as soon as stable room is available. The horses which came in Thursday morning are: Golden Era, Auman, Rickey Roo, Bold Courtier, and Bold Wade. Those to come are Dodd, Aravanna, Lee and Lee and Torey, and will join those stabled at Bay Meadows. Cleaveland Putnam, wealthy Illinois owner came on from his home to witness the running of the 5,000 added Bay Meadows Handicap, which will have its decision Saturday. Mr. Putnam is racing a small stable here in charge of trainer C. E. "Boots" Dur-nell. Aside from racing a stable Putnam is identified with the breeding industry and is owner of the sires Ladysman, and the aged Polymelian. Ladysman is standing in Kentucky and has been bred to the following "mares owned by Putnam: Rose Smith, Sweet Bean, Belladonette, Pompeys Squaw, Martial Spirit, and English Accent. Polymelian is standing in California at Stouts Ranch near Arcadia, where a filly by Polymelian, from Speech was foaled March 17. It is probable Mr. Putnam will remain in this region for an indefinite period. After waiting several days to obtain an express car to convey his horses to Belmont Park, N. Y., trainer E. E. Hart left Wednesday afternoon with thirteen head of the Snow White Stock Farm stable. The shipment was in charge of Tom Woods, and Hart. Jockey George Woolf checked in from Santa Anita, and it is reported he will be aboard C. S. Howards Seabiscuit in the 5,000 added Bay Meadows Handicap. Former jockey Monte Preston now training for Fred Turner, Jr., of Midland, Texas has disposed of the last of the string he brought to the coast when he sold Bagen May to F. J. Estes, who represented J. F. Miles. Terms of the transaction were pri-. vate. Preston will leave here Saturday for Midland, where he will take up the fourteen head, which have been turned out at the Turner Ranch since last fall. There are nine two-year-olds among those which Preston will return to training. A mixed car of horses will be sent east Monday, when the twelve head under the direction of trainers Roy Selden, Joseph Brooks, A. C. Russell and Joe Woods, roll away from the platform at San Mateo for Boston. Selden will have two, Brooks seven, Russell two, and Joe Woods one. Howard Hawks, who maintains the Blue Moon Stable will leave for Kentucky next week, and while there will be the guest of A. B. Hanger. Mr. Hawks will remain to witness the running of the Kentucky Derby. The Hawks horses in charge of former jockey Jimmy Smith are expected to arrive from Santa Anita next week. They, will be quartered at Tanforan.
