MENOW STARTS AT LEXINGTON Headley Derby Hope Entered in Trial Handicap at Keeneland. Bull Lea Also Among Eligibles for Todays Headliner Kings Heir Racing for Dixiana Stable. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 14. Menow, Hal Price Headleys home-bred son of Phara-mond II. and Alcibiades, which won the Champagne Stakes and the Belmont Futurity, the latter in the worlds record time of 1:15 for six and one-half furlongs, will make his 1938 debut in the Trial Handicap, which will top Keeneland Parks second day of spring racing tomorrow. Menow will be opposed by three others of his age, for a run over six furlongs, and Charley Kurtsinger, who directed him in his record-breaking and rich triumph, will handle him tomorrow. Bull Lea was expected to be one of the several to match strides with the Headley Kentucky Derby and Blue Grass Stakes candidate, but the Calumet Farm board of strategy decided to reserve the son of Bull Dog for the Mereworth Purse, to be run a week from today. Barring mishaps, Menow also will go in that one and one-sixteenth miles gallop and it should prove to be an elimination for the Blue Grass Stakes, which will bring the local season to a close two weeks hence. TRIAL HANDICAPS. Of the three others, Kings Heir, Mightily and Sweep Royal, named for the Trial Handicap, there is little to choose between them, but none appears to have a chance to make Menow fully extend himself over the short distance. Dixiana will be represented by Kings Heir, which finished second in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes after winning two of his nine starts last year. He won two races during the Santa Anita season and has since been training over the private track at Charles T. Fishers Dixiana. Sweep Royal won one of his four starts during the Hot Springs meeting and accounted for two races last year. Mightily, a home-bred son of Misstep and Strong, and the property of Leo J. Marks, also won two races last year and finished second once out of two starts during the Miami season. -
