HAVRE OPENING TODAY ! Maryland Racing Scene Changes to I Popular Susquehanna Track. Aberdeen Stakes for Juveniles, Fea- ture of Well Arranged Inaugural Card. BALTIMORE, Md., April 14. The thoroughbreds return to upper Maryland tomorrow for a stay of fourteen days, a period which will be notable chiefly for the renewals of such important races as the Chesapeake Stakes and the Philadelphia Handicap, events which should bring forth some crack candidates for the Kentucky Derby, Preak-ness and Dixie Handicap. As an opening attraction the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Association has carded the four and a half furlongs Aberdeen Stakes, a dash which will bring into action the unbeaten Charlotte Girl, the smartest filly shown in Florida action during the winter and one which made a mighty beautiful impression on Marylanders through her triumph in the Bowie kindergarten. Elwood Sachsenmaiers early champion is in the race mighty well with 116 as her portion and over night she shapes up as the hottest choice on the opening day program. Even money on her chances would be a tremendous price. Nine youngsters are named to oppose her and none of the lot has shown anything in public competition, which would lead to the belief that she is destined for defeat. SUNNY SKIES. The skies were bright and sunny in this sector today and promised a continuance of fair weather for the inaugural. Only this is needed to make it a fine day of racing for the faithful and a thoroughly prosperous afternoon for the organization. The Aberdeen is one of the oldest stakes on the Havre de Grace roster, having been inaugurated twenty-five years back when Roscoe Troxler booted the speedy Enver Bey to victory. Many waters have passed from the Susquehanna River into Chesapeake since that afternoon and many better horses have triumphed in the race since that lads triumph. Included in the collection were George Smith and Paul Jones, which were destined to win the Kentucky Derby just a year after taking the juvenile sprint. Van-derpool, unbeaten as a two-year-old, was another. Careful was the first filly to account for the Aberdeen and she was decidedly best of that sex to register. Charlotte Girl is by no means a Careful, but she will do as the best of her age and sex, insofar as eastern competition is concerned, until another comes along. She has trained perfectly for the event and with Johnny Longden riding one of his alert races the result never should be in question. MIAMI CAMPAIGNER. Our Chuckie is another Miami campaigner, which will swing into action in the Aberdeen and he has been favored well in the draw at post positions, with number two as his station. The Detroit-owned colt has started only twice, winning his first in a romp and then finishing second to Charlotte Girl in the Bowie Kindergarten. He has been thoroughly educated and looks far superior to the other hopefuls. "Doc" Jones brought Oak Apple from Virginia to Bowie to show plenty of speed in his first start. The son of Chestnut Oak should improve over that. Another formidable is the Pennsylvanian, Mask and Wig. The veteran A. J. Joyner thought well enough of this one to send him on from Erdenheim for the event. That says he should prove a factor. Jimmy Stewart maintains that My Porter Continued on sixteenth page. Watch Over is another corking Marylander and better than his one race would suggest, while Star Runner appears much better than his last. Little can be said for the others. Charlotte Girl must be the public choice and a victory for this -iss would be decidedly the days most popular score. The Calvert Handicap, at one mile and seventy yards will be the days secondary attraction, with the Western-owned Mythical King shaping up as the smartest of those entered. The remaining five events have drawn excellent fields and from a competitive standpoint it is impossible to find fault with Charles McLennans offerings. The card indicates there should be excellent racing during the fourteen-day period despite Metropolitan competition.
