: ORPEN MEMORIAL TO BE RUN AT LONG BRANCH 1 TORONTO, Ont., April 14. Honoring the memoiy of the late A. M. Orpen and at the i same time pursuing the ambitious stakes program inaugurated last year, the operators of Long Branch, in Toronto, announce a ,000 Orpen Memorial Handicap, to be run-at the Long Branch Spring meeting on Saturday, June 4. This fixture will be renewed annually and its importance as an addition to the roster of Canadian stakes is at once apparent. The Orpen Memorial will be confined to three and four-year-old Canadian-foaled horses, at a mile and one-sixteenth .and, while open to all horses of the ages specified, bred in Canada, whereas the Kings Plate is confined to the province breds, will virtually a re-running of the Woodbine classic over a slightly shorter distance and should settle any arguments as to supremacy that may arise in the earlier race. Much interest will naturally be added to the stake because of this fact.
