i WITHERS STAKES SATURDAY I j MAY ATTRACT HALF-DOZEN J NEW YORK, N. Y., May 19.— Indications are that the old Withers Stakes, to be renewed at Belmont Park this week-end, will hardly attract more than half a dozen starters, if indeed as many go to the post for the famous mile contest. Those that are considered certain starters at this time are Hal Price Headleys Menow, the probable choice of the lot; William duPont, Jr.s Dauber, a recent winner of the Preakness; Mai-shall Fields Cattistock, the Greentree Stables Redbreast and Ogden Phipps Magic Hour. Dauber was breezed three furlongs in :40 at Belmont Park this morning. He would prefer a longer journey than a mile but is ready and should go well. Monow was sent along for a mile over the training track at Belmont Park Wednesday. He worked in 1:45 and is ready. Red-brMMt, only recently arrived from Churchill Downs, stepped a handy mile in 1:42 at Belmont Park Wednesday and it was a useful final. Magic Hour had his final in a six furlongs dash Wednesday when he was declared the winner after having been fouled by Efface in the stretch. The race wan not an imptes slve one, but Fltzsimmons announced he would start the son of Sortie and One Hour In the Withers.
