1 RIVER DOWNS TURF NOTES I ♦ S George Blecker, chairman of the Ohio Racing Commission, came down from Columbus for Wednesdays program. John Gedert, who has been at Detroit for several days on business pertaining to the opening of that meeting, returned here Wednesday and reported that five carloads of horses reached the Fair Grounds course from Maryland Monday morning. H. B. Reether has been engaged to train Gay Jay, Brilliant Rock, Duckie Rose, Cohort Girl and Princess Lu for J. E. Mason. The Mason horses run under the nom de course of the Spring Valley Stable. Joe Johnson has been engaged to train the two-year-old Aunt Caddie for George Krehbiel. The youngster was formerly trained by Jack Hicks. Jockey Enrique Rodriguez left late Thursday for Suffolk Downs, where he reports to the C. C. Winters stable. According to Harry Van Ry, who has three of the Dixiana horses at River Downs, Clyde Van Dusen has arranged to transfer thirty horses from Dixiana, near Lexington, to Detroit Sunday night. C. H. Smith is bringing Oddesa Girl here from Churchill Downs to fill her engagement in Saturdays Hotel Sinton Handicap. Oddesa Girl, an eligible for Saturdays ,-i 000 added Hotel Sinton Handicap, Oddesa Maid and Oddesa Polly, will be vanned here from Churchill Downs Friday. Word was received here from Detroit that William Quigley would not return to serve as I an assistant steward. Quigley hopes to be- | come affiliated with the Inglewood track in California. He served as steward at Del Mar. Eddie Hilton has been engaged to train the plater Feezie for Mrs. C. Schiitte. George Napier left for Toronto to report to J. Bedame, who leased the boys contract from L. Haymaker. Keene Daingerfield Jr. was notified that the name Oblivious has been approved for : the two-year-old bay daughter of Halcyon and Duchess Arda. Jockey Melvin Calvert received a shoulder injury when Margaret I. fell with him Wednesday, and the lad will be out of competition until Monday. Margaret I. was uninjured. Gus Simon sold the contract he held on Alfred De Salvo to B. Wehner, who races under the nom de course of Verona Stock Farm stable. N. E. Shop brought Uncle July, Scottish Pride, Brilliant Pal, Wild Oats and Ancient Time from Columbus. Mrs. H. Torrientes Swap suffered several cuts while filling his engagement in the eighth race Wednesday and the stewards excused him from starting Thursday. Jockey R. L. Vedder has been engaged to ride J. B. Respess Main Man in the renewal of the ,000 added Col. Alger Memorial Handicap, to be run at Detroit, Monday, May 30. *
