» — DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE DIES LONDON, England, May 19.— The Duke of Devonshire, whose death at the age of 69. occurred at his ancestral home, Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, May 7, did not maintain his predecessors lavish patronage of the turf. He was elected a member of The Jockey Club in 1909, shortly after he succeeded to the title, but he never had many horses in training. He sold his stud and retired from racing before the war, and comparatively few present-day racegoers have seen the one-time famous "all straw" Devonshire jacket.
