JOAN MACAW closed strongly next to the inner rail through the stretch and, overhauling the leaders in the last sixteenth, won going away. WASSAIL took command midway of the back stretch, displayed good speed thereafter and held on fairly well to the end. WEE HEDWIG was crowded back in the back stretch, then moved up on the outside on the turn for home, only to tire nearing the end. PAKALA began slowly, but closed steadily when too late. LIGHTIN BILL closed stroncly on the outside of his opposition on the far turn and, continuing gamely on the outside through the stretch, held on courageously in the final drive. SCHLEY NURSE came strongly next to the inner rail during the run home and was going strongly at the end. SUN WINE opened up a long early lead and held on gamely when the final test came. WARRIOR SLAVE finished with a belated rush. DAVID W. reached contention rounding the far turn, but tired at the end. The others tired. Overweight — Candle Fly, 2 pounds; Lockstep, 2.
