1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES f «, e W. J. Shelley, patrol judge at Churchill Downs, received word of his appointment as placing judge at North Randall. According to word received here, Cheatham Park of Kyle, Texas, will be here with several friends this week-end. Park is a steward at Suffolk Downs. Dan Weiskopf and Leon Gerngross, who, with Emil Schwartzhaupt, maintain the Em-dale Stable, arrived here from Florida and are here for the Derby. C. H. Knebelkamp came in at the same time. J. R. England, chairman of the Arkansas State Racing Commission, is due here Fri-, day from his home in England, Ark., to view the sixty-fifth Kentucky Derby Saturday. Arrangements are being made by J. R. Gregory to breed the four-year-old filly Night Mist, a daughter of Nassak — Pond Lily, to William E. Smiths Gay Monarch. Among the stables that will be transferred from Lexington to Churchill Downs after the running of the Kentucky Derby are those of Tom B. Young, Lucas B. Combs, Lou Unger, R. C. Goff, Garrett Watts and C. Hyde Smith. Jockey Alfred Robertson, first-string rider for the Milky Way Farm, made his first appearance in the saddle since his injury at Oaklawn Park, when he rode Sports Writer in the fourth race here Wednesday afternoon. F. J. Demary, Beaumont, Texas, businessman and owner of the Border Farm stable, is an arrival from the Lone Star State and will remain until after the running of the Derby. J. W. Ray, oil operator of Owensboro, Ky., motored from his home and will remain in Louisville until after the running of the Kentucky Derby. John H. Galway, Sr., New Orleans sewerage superintendent and owner of the horses Determined and Summit Hill, and his son, arrived from the Crescent City to view the running of the Kentucky Derby. Following the conclusion of the Churchill Downs meeting, Otis Clelland will send seventeen of Mrs. R. J. Murphys thoroughbreds to Detroit for campaigning.
