I ASSIGN CRETE WEIGHTS William F. Morgans The Fighter Assigned Top Impost of 130. Thirty-Four Eligibles Handicapped for Lincoln Fields Opening-Feature by Racing Secretary Shelley. CRETE, 111.,- May 20— Weights for the thirty-four nominees to the Crete Handicap, six furlongs feature of the inaugural program at Lincoln Fields on Thursday, were announced today by racing secretary William H. Shelley, who forecasts a splendid renewal of the ,500 added stake. Honored with the highest impost, 120 pounds, is William F. Morgans The Fighter, while rated close to the Texas-owned star are the veteran and consistent mare, Silverette, owned by Garrett Watts, and Kings Blue, smart sprinter in the stable of John Marsch of Chicago. Silverette, which at nine years is still winning her share of races, must shoulder 118 pounds in the Crete, while Kings Blue, which raced well at Churchill Downs, has been assigned a pound less. THE FIGHTER CONTENDER. The Fighter, a six-year-old son of Bull Dog, won his last engagement at Louisville before being transferred here and defeated a number of those he will be called upon to meet in Thursdays race. Some of those which finished behind him in this event were Dixianas Torchy, Marschs Lightspur, Milky Way Farms Giles County, Mrs. Thelma Otts Employer and A. G. Tarns Wise Fox, all of them eligible for the Crete Handicap. Silverette, which is campaigning long after many horses have outlived their usefulness as racing tools, displayed her fitness to sprint with the best before some 80,000 persons at Churchill Downs on Derby Day when she ran three-quarters of a mile in 1:11 to win the Brown Hotel Handicap. It was one of the fastest performances of the Kentucky season and one that is sure to earn her many admirers at Lincoln Fields. Although he came back to win another race in smart fashion, Kings Blues most notable achievement this spring was his dead heat for top honors with Arabs Arrow in the Churchill Downs Handicap. Also respected in Shelleys ratings of Crete Handicap eligibles are such accomplished sprinters as Torchy, Shandon Farms Gold Flag, Milky Way Farms Tiger, Rock Home Stables Dora May, Mrs. Emil Denemarks Corinto, Woolford Farms Joe Schenck, Wal-| mac Farms Olney and Calumet Farms Easy Mon. Most of these horses, as well as a number of others, are likely to be found in the actual field of starters. The Crete Handicap is the first of eleven stakes to be run during the twenty-seven day season at Lincoln Fields and its presence on the inaugural program, coming on what or-| dinarily would be an off-day in racing, should help get the meeting off to a flying start. Some of the outstanding stables in the Middie West are either here or due in the next few days and prospects are for some of the finest racing Chicagoans have seen.
