I JOCKEY W. L. JOHNSON GIVEN I j THIRTY-DAY SUSPENSION | LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 20— Jockey W. L. Johnson today was given a suspension of thirty calendar days for foul riding in the ninth race at Churchill Downs yesterday. Johnson, who rode I Chase, was set down for grabbing the equipment on Texas Rose, which was handled by Charles Charlton. The two horses finished in a dead heat for first place, but I Chase was disqualified because of Johnsons foul tactics. Johnson recently was released from his contract to the stable of Mrs. R. J. Murphy to accept the riding assignment for the J. B. Partridge stable at Belmont Park. He was to have left here tonight for New York. The wording of the stewards ruling follows: "Jockey W. L. Johnson is suspended thirty days 1 calendar month for grabbing jockey C. Charlton on Texas Rose during the stretch run in the ninth race Friday. Johnsons mount, I Chase finished in a dead heat for first place with Texas Rose, but was disqualified and placed last."
