I AK-SAR-BEN TURF NOTES f s 0 His Girl, which won the Kings Plate Handicap at Ak-Sar-Ben last year as well as two other feature events, is the star of the stable of "Murph" Palmer, of Brush, Col., which also includes Toneys Girl, Zirl and Saucy Maid. Palmer has had his horses here for several weeks and hopes to cop the inaugural handicap on opening day, May 27. A newcomer to Ak-Sar-Ben this year is H. C. McConnell, of Grand River, la., who is on the ground with Leather Goods, Redding, Westerville, Tracker, and the two-year-olds Nemaha, Jack Alex, Lacona, Modale and Hardin. Charles Tanner, the well known Nebraska trainer, has a stable of horses here preparing for the opening. Included are M. H. Van Bergs horses, Bud Smith, Terashera, Keen Gloaming, Pandisco and the two-year-old Chestnut Ann. He also has Evelyns Pride and Homer Southwicks contender in the Nebraska Futurity, Gaymaid Guest. C. W. Bray, of Mitchell, Neb., has seven head here, including Foot Sore, Every Where, Brown Banner, Miss Sioux and the two-year-olds Lorena Seth, Teen-Sleep and Bang Up. Polvos Image, once the pride of W. J. Potter, is here, the property of the Lipsey Bros. and Ormsby Stable. Among the one-horse stables here are J. E. Armstrong, of Woodbine, la., with Billy Skillful; W. Mettz, of Falls City, Neb., with Sooty; H. E. Van Buskirk, of Foster, Neb., with Double Brush. E. E. McHaney, of Morris Ranch, Texas, expects to make a showing at Ak-Sar-Ben this year with his pair of three-year-olds, Wee Due and Sportville, and the two-year-old Smiling Duel.
