: 1 ■ • | t DETROIT TURF NOTES * $; and Jockey Porter Roberts and his agent, Hubert Taylor, arrived from Louisville. Roberts reported to trainer J. W. Murphy, who has ten head here for J. O. Keene and three for Mrs. Peggy Ainsworth Townsend. W. R. "Russ" Padgett registered Big Gay, Grand Reina, Imperial Nick, Miss Almadel , and Conbee. Apprentice W. Page, one of the leading riders at Beulah Park, is under engagement to Padgett. The sixty-day suspension meted out to jockey Sammy Williams at Santa Anita has expired and Williams, who is under contract to J. C. Ellis, owner of Dade Park, accepted mounts on the card Saturday. Williams turned his book over to C. M. Brown, agent for the Ellis stable. Brown is also making the riding engagements for apprentice Arnold Sorsen. M. B. Goff, prominent business man of Pittsburgh, Pa., who has six horses here in charge of A. L. Riley, was a visitor and expects to remain for the balance of the meeting. The horses Amos Wallin shipped here recently from Lexington, Ky., are Red Chief, Just Don, Tireless Lady, Deepdene, Royal Land, High Link and Whizzing. The Motor City Stable, maintained by Louis J. Leper, local patron, which has been, here for nearly a week, has been taken over by trainer Charles Raynor, who arrived Saturday morning. The local outfit is made up of Sachem, Rib Roast, Fly Me, Gimco, Pink Diamond, Mad Sweep and Tiger Claw. An addition to the jockey colony, which is growing rapidly, is Raymond Hightshoe, who reported to H. D. Cox, whose horses have been here several days: The two horses William Kenney, Jr., brought here for his father, William Kenney, Sr., are Valvesta, a recent winner at Churchill Downs, and Glen Kenney. In addition to Little Empress, which sports his own colors, Joe Hall is training Lyner for George Krehbiel, local turf writer. George H. Neal, who wintered Step Along, Florid and Busy Spain here for Mrs. L. Patrick, local patroness, are doing nicely in their training and Neal hopes to have the trio ready to sport silks in ten days. A. L. Taylor arrived with Quicker, Blanco Sweep, Golden Shoo and Racing Edition. Tho quartet, which race for H. N. Lape, Columbus, Ohio, business man, came hero from Churchill Downs. Taylor reported tho salo of Scioto River, which also raced for Lapo, to Lawrence Montoney, who will raco the horso in Ohio. Jockey Warren Snyder arrived from New York and Frank Mnschelc from Suffolk " Downs, while C. Calvin, who is under engage-niont to 13. C. Carpenter, checked in from Kentucky.
