NORTH RANDALLS MEETING Cleveland Jockey Club to Open Its New Track on Saturday. Eight Stakes Will Bo Contested During tho Thirty-Three Days of Sport — Announce Inaugural Weights on Wednesday. CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 20.— With tho scheduled opening of tho Cleveland Jockey Clubs initial thirty-three day meeting at tho North Randall course only a week away, completion of the numerous Improvements are expected to be reached by mid-week. The officials of the organization have spared no expense in readying the plant and soliciting the best grade of thoroughbreds available for competition. North Randall, heretofore used exclusively for trotting races, required considerable renovating to provide sufficient stabling facilities for the thoroughbreds in addition to the expansion of the seating capacity. Under the direction of Charles Y. McVey, president of the Cleveland Jockey Club, the construction work has been going forward at top speed for the past several weeks and the plant now compares favorably with, many of the major mid-western race courses. EIGHT IIEADLINERS. Eight stakes are to be contested for during the thirty-three day meeting, the gross value of which reaches the 5,000 mark. They have been so designed by racing secretary Julius G. Reeder to attract some of the best handicap performers in training at present. Five of the added money event3 are given over to route runners with the first of these the North Randall Inaugural Handicap, for three-year-olds and upwards, at a distance of a mile and a sixteenth. In addition to the opening day feature are seven other well balanced contests, with tho Buckeye Purse, a contest at a mile and seventy yards, for horses of grade "D" ranking, as the secondary attraction. Three more races at a mile and over and a trio of sprint races are to be offered to the racing enthusiasts of the Forest City. Preparations are being made for the handling of one of the largest attendances in the history of the thoroughbred sport in Cleveland for the opening of the season. FEATURES LISTED. Stakes that are to be staged following the decision of the Inaugural Handicap are the Memorial Day Handicap, ,500 added, on Tuesday, May 30; Cleveland Plain Dealer Handicap, ,500 added, Saturday, June 3; Cleveland Press Handicap, ,500 added, Saturday, June 10; Cleveland Handicap, ,00 added, Saturday, June 17; North Randall Juvenile Handicap, ,500 added, Saturday, June 24; Cleveland News Handicap, ,500 added, Saturday, July 1, and the concluding feature, the ,000 added Independence Day Handicap, Tuesday, July 4. Weights for the Inaugural Handicap, which closed at midnight Saturday, will be announced Wednesday by handicapper Reeder, who was well pleased with the generous subscription of the best grade of thoroughbreds for the mile and a sixteenth tussle.
