Under the later weight arrangement the Metropolitan should attract a greater number of nominations and give Campbell a better chance to make a good race of it. That the distance of the Wood Memorial Stakes may be increased to a mile and one-sixteenth is a strong probability. . . . Jamaicas valuable spring test for three-year-olds has been at a mile and seventy yards since its inception in 1925. . . . The increased distance should eliminate to some extent the sort of crowding that marred this years running, in which El Chico suffered greatly. ... At the same time the longer route should make the race more interesting. . . . Phil Router is quite happy over the news that Virginella has foaled a filly by Roman Soldier. . . . And has been mated with Gino, one of Willis Sharpe Kilmers galaxy of stallions. ... He is an outstanding exponent of the speedy Roi Herodc line and the cross with the distance-loving daughter of Espino — Quick Batter, by Runantell, should be a good one. . . . Esposa, now seven years of age, went to the post ninety-two times. . . . She carried the Ziegler silks to nineteen victories, was second twenty-two times and third on thirteen other occasions. . . . Her earnings total 31,255, making her the third-richest filly or mare in American racing history. . . .
