HIGH POLISH, away swiftly, but unable to keep up in the first half mile, responded courageously to strenuous urging thereafter, came extremely wide into the stretch and wore down SOLAR HAWK in the last twenty yards. SOLAR HAWK worked his way up gradually through the field, took command three-sixteenths out, but was not good enough. IDEAL FUNGI, a strong factor from the start, was kept on the outside to the final quarter, where she secured racing room on the inside and held on with determination. EASTERNER began slowly, worked his way up to contention rapidly, tiring in the last eighth. JUST ARRIVED, hustled hard to set the pace for five-eighths, gave way steadily thereafter when urged hard. MISS WISE had no mishaps. CLASHMAN had speed for a half mile. DEBRIS was through early. SHIPMADILLY, strongly handled and close to the leaders from the start, moved up with a rush in the last three-sixteenths, swerved to the inside when assuming the lead in the last sixteenth, but held TRUE STAR safe. The latter began swiftly, increased his advantage rapidly after a quarter, continued gamely, but could not withstand the winner. SOUP AND FISH dropped back soon after the start, was taken to the outside in the last three-eiehths and made a bold bid when straightened in the stretch, but tired near the end. FAIR AND FAST made up some ground in the final quarter. SAN-MONICA tired. NIGHT LADY was never a strong factor and was not persevered with in the final stages. HIGH ONE, alertly ridden and displaying a liking for the footing, opened up a clear advantage soon after the start, stalled off a challenge from BARBARA A. in the final eighth and was ridden out to retain his margin. BARBARA A., never far back and kept in the middle of the track throughout, issued a challenge when straightened out in the stretch, tiring under pressure near the end. WOWO moved up fast on the outside after a quarter and closed gamely. ABANICO dropped back soon after the start, improved her position gradually, but was never a strong threat. SYRACUSE, rushed hard to set the pace, drifted out slightly in the stretch when tiring. IRVANA, on the outside, followed the pace for a half mila, but tired badly in the last three-sixteenths. The latter, a strong factor from" the start, was taken under snug restraint to the final quarter and, placed to pressure, closed with a rush. SOUTHLAND BEAU, unable to keep up in the early stages, was forced to lose some ground by racing wide on the stretch turn, then continued gamely under urging to the end. GILES COUNTY responded readily to strong urging in the last quarter and made up some ground, but tired in the last stages. GRAND CHILD, taken up when in close quarters at the half-mile post, was steered to the outside and made up some ground when clear. WINDSHIELD dropped back after a fast beginning and failed to threaten. VIRAGIN quit after showing speed for a half mile. DUNVEGAN was through early.
