1 BELMONT PARK TURF NOTES I J ■ — « Maj. L. A. Beard is here for the meeting and each morning is occupied supervising the efforts of the different trainers for the" Whitney interests. Seven trainers on New York tracks are responsible to the major for the physical condition of their charges. Walter Cox, the veteran trotting horse reinsman, was among the visitors Saturday afternoon. Duval Headley, shortly after the last race, boarded a plane for Detroit to visit his recent arrival in the family. Jack and Mrs. Healey are due back on Monday from Suffolk Downs, where they went to root for Tatterdemalion in the stake offering. Apprentice A. Siler announced that he will go to Hollywood to ride at that meeting, which starts on Decoration Day. Trainer L. T. Whitehill, of the T. P. Morgan stable, announced his resignation and will leave for California. Whitehill has been in ill health for the past month. The condition of steeplechase rider Harry Little was reported as improved by the Mary Immaculate doctors. The boy is suffering from a dislocated shoulder and minor head , injuries. Track superintendent Boyle, of Belmont Park, reported that the amount of water used to water the track during the daytime hours, was far in excess of recent years. He said a heavy downpour would be welcomed. Trainers reported that the coughing spell, which visited several of the stables, is spreading.
