FANS FOLLOWING DUPUY Riding of 90-Pounder Puts New Life in Detroit Sport. Platers Perform in All Eight Races — Epidemic of Coughing Makes Entries Slow to Fill. DETROIT, Mich., June 20.— A ninety-pour.d boy from the Cagin country of Louisiana and twilight racing has instilled new life in the Detroit spring and summer meeting, which two weeks ago appeared to be dying slowly. Hayden "Little Dup Dupuy is the lad that has the fans all agog by his flashy riding. He was slow in getting started after an enforced vacation incurred for rough riding at Churchill Downs, but during the past two weeks the horses "Little Dup" rode always commanded greater than natural support. With Willie Page losing his apprentice allowance yesterday, Dupuy appears an odds-on favorite to wind up the meeting with leading honors. The Louisiana boy rode four winners Saturday and came back yesterday to have a double. Dupuy was very active on todays ladies day program, having eight mounts, and those horses received a heavy play from the big crowd. There was nothing in the way of a feature, lowly platers performing in all of the eight races. The first five races engaged limit and near limit fields. Five of the eight races were run over six furlongs and the other three events were at distances of one and one-sixteenth miles and one mile and seventy yards. WELL-BALANCED CARD. The coughing epidemic, prevalent here for some time, and now at its highest pitch, prevented racing secretary Charles Henry from filling better races, but a well-balanced program has been arranged for tomorrow, and with the real warm weather of yesterday and today and a forecast for a continuation of the same, it is believed the coughing disease will be stopped. Hazel Nut won her second race of the year and Johnny Claug, a Cincinnati youngster, was astride his second winner, in the first race at one mile and seventy yards. Frank C. was second and Pennlist third. Hazel Nut was the favorite. Claug, who scored with Fancy That during the Keeneland meeting for his initial victory, handled Hazel Nut in fine style. He permitted Sky Grenade to set the pace to the upper turn and, sending his mount into command soon afterward, Claug allowed her to establish a good lead. After reaching the stretch Frank C. came down on the inside to offer a bold bid but, responding in fine fashion, Hazel Nut drew away to win with a length and a half to spare. A 1
