PONS PRESIDING STEWARD Dienst Announces Appointment of Well-Known Official at Lancaster — Once Campaigned Stable. LANCASTER, Ohio, June 20.— Appoint-.... ment of Owen E. Pons, Sr., to the position of presiding steward for the nine-day race meeting here opening Saturday, was an-lt- nounced today by Robert J. Dienst, president and general manager of the Lancaster Rac--. ing Association, Inc. Pons is a veteran racing official and sev-•je eral years ago he campaigned a stable of horses. He hails from Grove City, Ohio, and has been serving as an associate steward at North Randall. For the past two years, he also has been associate steward at Beulah Park. Pons also is an official at Hialeah Park in Florida and also on Canadian tracks. Lancasters presiding steward is the father of Owen E. Pons, Jr., racing official at Havana and eastern courses.
