H., June 20.— The he United States submarine, Squalus, was in in trouble twice before she took her fatal dive ve May 23 with a loss of twenty-six lives, Lt. Lt. | | Com. Oliver F. Naquin, one of thirty-three ; ; survivors, revealed today before a navaL /ai | board of inquiry. The first was when a bell crank of the main induction valve system -rn ; ; was found out of order on April 9. This was | shortly after the Squalus had made her [ initial submergence between docks at the he Portsmouth Navy Yard to determine if she ihe was watertight. Failure of this valve to to! ! close properly is thought to be the cause of of her fatal dive.
