I | I • 1 ] I ; | | . TALL STORY LOWERS RECORD Clips Two -Fifths Off Mad Hatters Mark at Aqueduct. Runs One Mile and a Sixteenth in 1:42%— Mythical Regarded as Champion Juvenile Filly. NEW YORK. N. Y., June 23.— Some 7,500 visitors at Aqueduct today were treated to a record-breaking performance by the Glen Riddle Farms Tall Story, three-year-old bay-son of Questionnaire and Argosie, by Man o War, and an eyeful of what some astute judges of horse flesh regard as the best two-I year-old filly raced to date— Albert C. Bost-wicks Mythical. The latter horse, a brown daughter of St. Germans and Brown Elf, by Brown Prince II., was the winner of the fourth race. The past performance charts gave no indication of the high turn of speed, and the quality that the Glen Riddle colorbearer was to show in the Pickett, mile and sixteenth test for three-year-olds and upward, which held fifth and feature place on the Queens County Jockey Clubs program. In the Shevlin Stakes, the Questionnaire colt, which was bred by Mr. Riddle, wound up fourth to Volitant, Golden Voyage and Third Degree, beaten five lengths. The mile special was run in 1:36%. FAST RACE. Today, under five less pounds than he packed in the Shevlin and with Don Meade in the saddle. Tall Story won the mile and a sixteenth Picket in 1:42%, clipping two-fifths of a second off the track record set by Mad Hatter under 132 pounds. The fractions of the Picket were :23%, :46%, 1:11-5 and 1 : 36 , r. . The time for the mile was only one-fifth of a second short of John P. Griers record for the mile, although three-fifths short of the first mile of last Saturdays nine furlongs Dwyer, In which Johnstown was returned winner. As long ago as last fall the late George Conway, then trainer of the Glen Riddle j horses, predicted that Tall Story would de- J velop into a top-flight horse. Until today, although he had turned in some excellent efforts, the colt hadnt quite measured up to his original trainers expectations. He was saddled for the Picket by J. G. Farrell, the new Glen Riddle trainer, and the manner in which he performed indicated that from now on he will have a good chance to make his way with the pick of the horses of his age. SHOWS SPEED. The filly Mythical, second choice to W. H. Gallaghers Us in the fourth event, came • through with a magnificent effort to win. In scoring she appeared to be superior to Us in a greater degree than was the filly Now What, winner over the Gallagher lass in the recent Astoria Stakes. George H. "Pete" Bostwick, brother to the owner-breeder of Mythical, said after the race: "Id be willing to bet that shes the best two-year-old filly out this year." Mythical is trained by Mrs. Elizabeth Cromwell Bos-i ley of Monckton, Md. In winning, the filly made it two scores in two starts.
