: : I I i VETERAN EARL POOL SCORES Pilots R. J. Diensts Mint Dodge to Victory at North Randall — Gets Ovation From Fans. CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 23.— That jockey Earl Pool, 43 years young, hasnt lost a great deal of his acumen as a clever rider, was demonstrated here at North Randall this afternoon when he booted Robert J. Diensts Mint Dodge to victory in the opening race. It was his fourth victory astride a two-year-old at the current meeting. The veteran rider, who has won more than 1,200 races in his quarter century as a leading jockey, received a hearty ovation from the fine week-day crowd. The .00 backers of jockey Pool and Mint Dodge received a winning return of 3.80. W. W. Stones Val-dina Lass, even money favorite, captured the place and Ouachita, owned by Keene Dain-gerfield, Jr., took the show award. Over a "heavy" track, eight juveniles paraded postward for the opening sprint, a sprint at four and one-half furlongs. Mr. Dienst, the winning owner, claimed from the race the filly which finished second to hi3 Mint Dodge — Valdina Lass. It was the fourth start for Mint Dodge, she having made her racing debut here during the-early part of the meeting. A daughter of Mint Briar— Beth Dodge, by Dodge, the two-year-old miss was bred by Mr. Dienst at his River Divide Farm, near Columbus, Ohio. "Daily Double" tickets on Mint Dodge in the first and Gay Bride in the second returned a winning price of 22.60.
