CASUALTIES OF SWATOW FIGHT SWATOW, China. June 23.— First reports of casualties in the current Sino Japanese | fighting in the Swatow area today placed j the Chinese dead at six hundred and Nip- j i ponese losses at twenty-two killed and forty-four j injured. The Japanese military an nounced that ninety-eight Chinese were tak-1 en prisoners and that they captured one | hundred rifles, one trench mortar and 6,00: rounds of ammunition. Fighting continues behind Swatow, it was stated.
