INGLEWOOD, Calif., June 24. — War clouds because of friction between the Holly- wood Park officials and Lin Howard, one of the most prominent trainers at the track, darkened the horizon just before the races Friday afternoon when it was announced by the stewards that Howard had been fined 00 and given forty-eight hours in which to pay the fine or stand suspended. Howard was penalized for failing to bring Comet II. to the paddock Thursday after-1 noon to run in the fifth race. The young trainer of the Binglin Stable horses is re-l ported to have sent word to the stewards that his horse had suffered a leg injury and was unable to start. Apparently the officials failed to receive the message and ordered Howard to appear at their offive Friday morning. This Howard failed to do and the general ruling was forthcoming. Howard was reported to be quite indignant over the fact that his word as having sent the message regarding Comet H.s condition to the stewards was not accepted and dition to the stewards was not accepted.
