Diamond Dick Ekes Out Head Verdict in Thorp Charges Fast on Outside to Whip Shout About in Detroit Sprint FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 29. Diamond Dick, racing for Mrs. George C. White of Nashville, and well handled by jockey Patterson Milligan, drove up on the outside to engage Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Shout About in a stiff stretch duel and eke out a head verdict at the end of the six-furlong Tom Thorp Purse that featured the racing at this border course today. The battle of the first two saw them two additional lengths before Crack Reward who was a fast-finishing third for Theodore Buehl, less than a length before Mrs. E. H. Beez-leys Knights Gift. Milligan sent the winning son of Rolls Royce over the dull racing strip in 1:12 for his second consecutive tally at the meeting. Bubble Gum and Shout about raced closely aligned down the backstretch with Bubble Gum taking a slight advantage while on the inside. This was under sufferance from Shout About who swept around the outside entering the stretch to supplant Bubble Gum from the van position and the early pacemaker promptly chucked it when headed to wilt out of contention. Meanwhile, Diamond Dick had been slow to find his best speed but gradually improved his position on the outside. Crack Reward swung quite wide under pressure in the stretch but he had good speed to earn show honors over the even going Knights Gift who saved ground while skimming the inner rail. Light rain overnight left the racing strip in a good condition, while a drizzle began to fall from the overcast skies during the early afternoon to the discomfort of the 8,021 patrons present. The program opened with a test at one mile over the Lewis turf course and here Mills Duty came from close to the early pace to dislodge the favored Tribal n. from command in the late stretch and earn a one-length lead.. Charavari was third in the field of 10. Mills Duty, despite his victory in a previous race, was overlooked in the wagering to return 9.40. Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Robert F. drove between the fanned-out field in the stretch to take top honors in the second race from ; Bangs Feast, who finished fast on the out-1 side to be only a half length away as Deanna weakened from her pacemaking 1 task to be third. Robert F. scored his first victory of the season in seven starts and was ridden by novice Ronald Brigley for that lads second saddle success. ; The combination of"Mills Duty and Robert F. formed a Daily Double worth 03.40.
