Alexis Makes Successful Return at Delaware Park Mackinaw Qualifies for Oaks By Victory in West Chester DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 29. Christiana Stables Alexis scored his initial victory of the year impressively today while dashing six furlongs in 1:11 Mi to annex honors in-; the featured Forest Lin Purse. Completing a consecutive double for jockey Carson Kirk, who had booted White Face to victory at 5.70 in the fourth race, Alexis finished two lengths in the van of Mrs. J. J. Kates Transair. George M. Cohens Denagee was another length back in third position. Alexis was favored at .10, while the close second choice, Red Herring, trailed the field to the wire. The frequent June showers would have been a welcome relief this afternoon, for a bright sun and humid weather made conditions almost unbearable with the result that only about 7,500 fans witnessed the card. Red Herring sprinted from the gate on the head end of the parade and continued to hold sway along the backstretch. Alexis soon moved, around that one, however, and took the lead without need of pressure. Red Herring flattened out completely after being displaced, as Denagee lodged a strong challenge after a half-mile. Alexis drew clear when punished intermittently through the stretch, as Transairs surprising tenacity netted him second money over Denagee. Lee Circle came around the field to be a fast closing fourth. Qualifying handsomely for Mondays rich Delaware Oaks, Cornelius V. Whitneys Mackinaw easily downed Christiana-Stables odds-on Anna Christie while winning the six furlongs West Chester Purse in 1:11. Under Shelby Clarks confident handling, the daughter of Mahmoud and Mackeral was six lengths to the good at the wire, with Anna Christie holding a similar margin over Nydrie Stables Monogamy. Mrs. W. L. Branns Challalita was the only other starter, Peace of Mind having been a late withdrawal. The winner paid .50.
