. " First Rose Earns Purse at Aqueduct Greentree Stable Juvenile Beats Dizzy Whirl, Joeval In Dash Event for Maidens AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 29. A dozen maiden juvenile fillies met in the first of the better races on todays featureless card at Aqueduct, with a couple of Greentree-bred misses taking the places of honor. Greentree Stables First Rose, the favorite, reached the end of the five and a half furlongs a length and a half before A. F. Plocks Dizzy Whirl, an outsider who was claimed from Greentree by G. M. Ja-cobson on May 13, and claimed from her next start by Plock on May 25. Addison Stables Joeval finished a neck farther back in third place and two lengths before King Ranchs Retama. Mrs. C. C. Tanners Tan-nette, a 6,000 yearling, finished fifth, while W-L Ranchs La Rimda, who cost 6,000, was eleventh. Ted Atkinson rode First Rose and had his hands full, as the filly raced very greenly, just as she did on her debut at Belmont Park. The daughter of Menow Rare Bloom, thus a half-sister to Magic Mirror, who won yesterday, paid . Pleasant Weather Attracts 17,535 Pleasant weather attracted 17,535 patrons, despite the lack of a lustre program. Tannette had the early speed in this dash, opening up a wide lead on Dark Favorite, Pink Tights and Joeval, while First Rose was in striking position, but seemed unable to make up her mind which way to deliver the blow. As Tannette ran out of wind in the stretch, First Rose was steered between horses by Atkinson, while Dizzy Whirl finished very fast on the outside to take the place from Joeval. Retama closed well after being repeatedly in close quarters. Atkinson again rode the winners of the so-called feature races, following his triumph on First Rose with an easy score on E. P. Taylors Spats, who coasted to the finish 10 lengths before Roy P. Steck-lers Brandy Punch, who led Gilbert Gays Kid Stuff by a neck. Osmer S. Demings Bill Howk, coupled with Kid Stuff, finished fourth after being, close to the early pace. Spats paid a liberal .20 and stepped the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45. Yesterday, Atkinson won the fifth and sixth races with Magic Mirror and Illumi-nable, also owned by Greentree Stable and E. P. Taylor, respectively. Spats was running with a 0,000 claiming tag today, the fifth time this year that the 1947 Spinaway Stakes winner could have been haltered. There were several bidders today, with Mrs. Tilyou Christopher winning the shake. Her trainer, Harris Brown, saddled Kid Stuff and Bill Howk, second choices in todays, race. To paraphrase an old saw, "If you cant beat em, claim em." JOCKEY TED ATKINSON Rod the winners of the featurt races yesterday at Aqueduct for the second day in a row.
