HAPPY ISSUE began fast, but dropped back immodiately after the start and was outrun to the stretch, came between horses during the drive and, responding to punishment, wore down the leaders during the final furlong. DEMURE, away slowly and far back for a half mile, came to the inside entering the stretch and closed with a rush, but was not good enough for the winnsr. BOGLE raced prominently to the stretch, then drifted out during the drive, but held on determinedly under brisk urging. SWEET WOMAN went to the front early, engaged BOGLE to the last furlong, then faltered. LUCKY M. was outrun. PROUD RULER failed to stay after showing early speed. VAN FLAG saved ground while in hand to the last three-eighths, cams to the outside entering the stretch, responded readily when shaken up, assumed command and won going away. MY ESTHER raced with IN FRAGANTI to the stretch, reached the lead between calls, then was unable to withstand the winner. SWIFT REWARD, far back early, came to the inside for the drivs and finished determinedly under punishment. IN FRAGANTI went to the front at the start, made the pace to tht stretch while engaging MY ESTHER, then weakened. PETES KID disliked the muddy going and was never dangerous. LEANORD G. was unable to keep up. OAF began slowly. BIG ALBERT had brief speed. LIGHT CARRIER was tlwough early.
