Primer Primer Brings Brings Out Out Field Field of of Eight; Eight; My My Request, Request, Escadru Escadru Go Go in in Shevlin Shevlin Former Topweighf Under 126 Pounds Principal Rival Carries Six Less in Aqueduct Fixture; Eleven Others Also Named AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 29. With no Citation or Coaltown to intimidat them, the three-year-old division ha grown exceedingly bold, with 13 being named overnight for the twenty-first running of the 0,000 Shevlin Stakes at a mile and a sixteenth tomorrow. Ben F. Whitakers My Request, who would hava been the Kentucky Derby favorite in mosfe years on the strength of victories in th two divisions of the Experimental Handicap and the Wood Memorial that he took with him as credentials to Louisville, heads the field under 126 pounds. His chief rival is W. L. Branns Escadru at 120. Both My Request and Escadru failed miserably in the Derby and both had some excuse beyond the present of the Calumet comets in the field that afternoon. My Request, a poor shipper, was in need of a psychiatrist more than a trainer as he entered the paddock, while Escadru scraped himself along the rail early in the race. Subsequently, My Request was again beaten by Coaltown in the Swift at seven furlongs and finished last behind Vulcans Forge, Coaltown and Better Self in ths Withers. He has been freshened since that race and is expected to show some return of his brilliant spring form tomorrow, but may find it very difficult to concede six pounds to Escadru, particularly through the long Aqueduct stretch. Won Peter Pan at Belmont Escadru came back from Kentucky to win the Peter Pan Handicap at Belmont, then finished third in the Belmont Stakes, losing second money in the last stride to King Ranchs Better Self, mainly because he made a valiant effort to catch Citation at the head of the stretch and had nothing left to cope with the Texan, who was ridden as though after second money, making no attempt to tangle with th champion. On paper at least, the Shevlin is a two-horse race, but the 11 opposing My Request and Escadru are not altogether without credit. Max Hirsch will saddle Gasparilla for A. J. Sackett and Safe Arrival for Kinff Ranch; Alfred G. Vanderbilt will be represented by Newsweekly and Maine Chanca Farm will have Jet Black to carry Mrs. Elizbeth N. Grahams colors. The others are Leo Gerngross Noble Hero, Belair Studs The Dervish, Sunshine Stables Control, Greentree Stables Up Beat, Arnold Hangers Sashay, G. H. "Pete" Continued on Page Three Primer Renewal Brings Forth Field of Eight Ocean Drive Engages Ol Skipper, r Ky. Colonel in Arlington Dash Continued from Page One and they have been carefully prepared for tomorrows engagement. On the Eye was raced three times. He won a race at Keeneland, after having finished second in his initial start. At Washington Park he showed good early speed in the Joliet Stakes, but faltered through the stretch, as if in need of more seasoning. Blue Night was mainly responsible for Ol Skipper tying the Washington Park track record. On that-day, the colt blistered the strip during the early running, opening a lead of several lengths that he maintained until collared late in the stretch, finally bowing by a short head. This type of speed always stands a youngster in good stead, while the distances are short. It may be that he will be the one to catch. At Churchill Downs Blue Night won one race by 10 lengths. Until his Hyde Park failure, Ky. Colonel was undefeated in three starts. He won two races, including the Bashford Manor at Churchill Downs, then raced Olympia to a dead-heat in the Joliet, at Washington Park. In the Hyde Park, he finished seventh, and showed little if anything. Irish Sun had raced at Hialeah, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Garden State Park and Delaware Park before coming here for the Hyde Park. He had shown several acceptable performances and it is quite possible that he wasnt quite set for his best in his local bow. The Primer, while not in a class with the Arlington Futurity and Washington Futurity in point of value, has attracted some outstanding competitors since it was inaugurated in 1941. That was Alsabs year, and the outstanding colt won the race by seven lengths, and established himself as a colt of great promise.
