New Louisiana Race Bill Awaits Longs Signature Measure Permits Ninety Days Sport Per Year in Any Parish NEW ORLEANS, La., June 29. Only Gov. Earl K. Longs signature is now required to authorize the extension of the racing season at the Pair Grounds in New Orleans to 90 days in a calendar year, an Increase of 15 days annually over the previous specifications of the law. The Rainold measure providing for the alteration was-passed last night in the Senate by a vote of 55 to 0. It was previously approved by the house by a vote of 80 to 1, and is now ready to go to the states chief executive for his signature. The Rainold bill amends Section 10 of Act 276 of 1940 to read as follows: "Any person, association or corporation desiring to operate a race track in the state shall have the right, subject to the provisions of this act, to hold and conduct one or more race meetings at such track each year, provided that no license shall be granted to any person, association or corporation or to any race track for a meet or meeting in any one parish to extend longer than 90 days in any one year." The Fair Grounds Corporation has not yet applied for dates for the 1948-49 season which undoubtedly will begin as in the past, on Thanksgiving Day, but it is regarded as likely that the full maximum number of days will be sought.
