Harper, of Oklahoma City, Okla., instilled joy into the hearts of the favorite players when he scampered home in advance of five others in the South Pacific Purse, best race on todays bill at this track. With Tony Skoronski riding powerfully in the late stages to land his second winner of the afternoon, Battie H., came around the early leaders on the far turn to take command and finish one length before the pacemaking Brezno, with Mr. Dink in third place. Sir David, the second choice, stopped badly in the stretch and was fifth. The attendance totaled 8,997 and included many members of the cast of South Pacific, including the stars Janet Blair and Richard Eastham. The track was fast and the weather ideal.
