SAINT NICHOLAS, forwardly placed from the start, assumed command nearing the stretch, drifted out during the drive, but lasted to withstand FESTIVAL II. The latter, in hand to the last three-eighths, was sent to the inside of SAINT NICHOLAS for the stretch run and closed willingly, but could not overtake the top one. FRESH BREEZE was sent to the outside for the stretch run, but could not get to the leaders. INDIAN GOLD saved ground throughout, made a good bid nearing the final turn, but tired during the drive. WATCH SUSAN was never dangerous. WAGRAM went to the front early, made the pace for a half mile, then weakened. Overweight— Watch Susan, 1 pound.
