TO MARKET — The Arlington and Washington Park Futurity winner registered his first victory of the 1951 season yesterday at Garden State Park. Six Well-Matched Juvenile Fillies Vie For Startle Purse Honors at Churchill Marie Eileen, Elaine Ruth, -Ave and Cotton Jinny Have Each Graced Winners Ring CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 8. — Two-year-old fillies are to occupy the spotlight tomorrow at this Central Avenue course and a half dozen junior misses are slated to meet in the four and one-half furlongs Startle Purse. The feature drew a small field but the juvenile dash should be packed with action inasmuch as several of the entrants have shown good form in previous outings during the Kentucky spring season. Mrs. Harry Trotseks Marie Eileen, who is to have the saddle services of the brilliant Kenneth Church, probably will go to the post favorite over her five rivals and she is to shoulder 118 pounds. The Trotsek filly will oppose Henry Forests Cotton Ginny, 113, with apprentice J. E. Turner named to guide her; F. J. Letelliers Queen Apache, 118; Paul Youkilis Elaine Ruth, 118; P. A. B. Widener, HI.s Pareu, 114, and Brown Hotel Stables Ave, 118. Lois C. Cook is engaged to handle Queen Apache while the veteran, Willie Garner, will be in the irons aboard Elaine Ruth. Marie Eileen, a handsome bay daughter of Johnstown and Azizi, won at Keeneland on April 20, vanquishing 11 other youngsters in game style and she finished second to Errards Guide at the local course on April 28. The latter colt, winner in three of his four engagements, defeated the Trotsek miss by a bit more than two lengths while stepping the Startle distance in :52%, which time was but the fractional parts of the second off the track record. Ave, a homebred filly, the get of Seven Hearts and Greetings All, graduated in her first appearance under silks at Oaklawn Park March 14. After taking a whipping at Keeneland April 21, she next started in the Sir Barton Purse at the Downs on May 3, finishing third to Errards Guide and Potpourri after displaying early foot. Jerry West or Charles Swain may get the saddle assignment on Ave in the mid-week head-liner. Cotton Ginny has shown occasional flashes of good form since beginning her racing career in New Orleans but disappointed her connections at Keeneland, where she was soundly beaten in the Dun-treath Purse. However, Cotton Ginnys morning trials have been on the quick side and she may make it rough on her Startle rivals should she turn in a top effort. Pareu was under silks in two Florida engagements before her transfer to Kentucky and she went fairly well on both occasions. The Widener homebred, the progeny of Polynesian and Royal Robes, is a handsome miss and she has gone along well enough with her training to satisfy her conditioner, the veteran Dan Stewart. Should the track for the Startle be muddy, Elaine Ruth would hold a royal chance to earn major honors. At Keeneland, the homebred black filly, who is by Burg-El-Arab and from Dog Daze, took the top on 11 other youngsters and made each post a winning one, annexing the Broadmoor Purse. The Youkilis representative found the soft footing advantageous and she was timed in :48%. Along with the Starle, racing secretary Fred Burton arranged several well-balanced supporting numbers. Two-year-old colts and geldings are to clash in the five furlongs opener while four-year-olds and up wi" meet in the one mile second and third races. Three-year-olds get in the picture , for the three-quarter mile Canter Purse, four-year-olds and older are scheduled to match strides in the six furlongs fourth and seventh, and the mile and a sixteenth "nightcap."
