Y., May 8.— George "Slim" Sully, the veteran trainer who saddled Count Turf for his Derby victory on Saturday, said today that after the race a stranger asked him what he fed the colt to make him so sleek. "Well," Sully said with a stone face, "once a month my grandfather sends me a barrel of bogrot from Ireland and I mix it in his feed." Sullys grandfather passed from the scene considerable number of years ago. "The next day," Sully added, "the man slipped me a note with his name and address and asked me to have some bogrot shipped to him at Pimlico." While on the subject, it is recalled that Sully confesses to having stolen sacks of feed from Sam Hildreth several years ago to feed a mare of his. When Hildreth, who had noted that the mare had speed, found out about it, he said, "You can go on taking the feed, but just be sure and tell me the day shes ready to win." Sully says that the mare won her race and Hildreth not only forgave the theft, but made a fair-size bet for her then young owner-trainer.
