J., May 8. — To Market thrilled a week-day crowd of 14,562 here this afternoon by racing up to his advance notices and, outclassing the field, scored at the pleasure of jockey Ronald Nash in annexing the feature six-furlong Indian King Purse. Second and beaten by two lengths was the Savoy Stables Blue Speed, while nine lengths further back War Phar was third. To Market, breaking from the rail, did not get away right with the leaders in the : : Indian King, but Nash sent him up boldly on the inside, and, finding a clear path next the rail, was in a position to challenge the fleeting Liberty Rab at the far turn. , To Market disposed of Liberty Rab in about : a furlong, and, drawing into a clear lead, ! was in hand for the remainder of the trip. Nash looked around at the eighth pole and was seemingly pleased with the margin, , which he considered safe enough, for he kept his whip in storage and was coasting at : the end. The time was 1:10%, only a ! second removed from the track record. Blue Speed, always within striking distance, 1 was roused on the turn, moved up close enough at the head of the stretch, I but could not improve his position thereafter. War Phar made up some ground belatedly but at no time was a serious threat. Not Likely to Go in Route Stakes To Market is an eligible for both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, but the ] rather large son of Market Wise is a doubtful starter in both events. Trainer W. J. "Buddy" Hirsch explained after the race that ] the stable had about decided that To Market was more df a sprinter than a distance horse, and might do better in dashes I than in merely setting the pace for horses with a true liking for either the mile and three-sixteenths of the Preakness, or the ] mile and a half of the Belmont, both which put 1 some sort of a premium upon staying • ability. To Markets last previous effort was in the 1 Wood Memorial at Jamaica, in which 1 he was beaten seven and a half lengths by Repetoire I and Battle Morn, among others, after showing early speed. However, even if he isnt the best classic 1 prospect in New Jersey, he would seem to 1 be of the stuff of which sprint highweight I stars are made. He won his race early today in the Indian King through confident 1 boldness. As expected, To Market was a favorite i with the Garden Staters, paying .40 I straight. The day was clear and of the 1 type that the Camden chamber of commerce I describes as ideal for spring — and I racing.
