F „ R s at of K far E a g no PO post sf set be is f E - in Ready Detroit Plant For May 25 Opening Most Stables That Raced at MRA Track Last Year Are Returning DETROIT, Mich., May 8.— The Detroit Race Track, which is to open a 56-day season, May 25, at its spacious and well-appointed five million dollar plant, is being brought into top shape for its second season, according to announcement today from president E. E. Dale Shaffer and general manager Robert G. Leavitt. This year will mark the second season the beautiful Livonia course and many the stables that campaigned here last year have reserved stall space for the forthcoming meeting. Shaffer recently revealed that stall accommodation requests exceeded the physical capacity of the stabling area and that his organization is carefully screening applicants in order to secure the best possible grade of horses. While no stakes are to be decided at Detroit this year, the purses will scale from ,500 minimum to 0,000 for overnight handicaps and a generous sprinkling of the higher valued events are programmed, according to word from racing secretary and handicapoer Charles J. McLennan. Racing is to be conducted every afternoon execept Sundays and on week-days time for the initial event has been for 3:45 p. m. On Saturdays and holidays, an earlier post for the first race will announced. The Michigan Racing Associations second year of operation at its new grounds expected to show a decided increase in attendance and mutuel handle. The track, located at Schoolcraft and Middlebelt Roads in Livonia, Mich., is the last word modern structure and one of the best-equipped parks in the Midwest.
