Maryland Notes PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 8. William Zakoor claimed Excel Lad from Mrs. Jimmy McGee out of yesterdays Pim-lico program for ,500. Zakoor has been a most active member of the halter brigade this spring. Yesterdays handle of 69,130 bettered the same Monday a year ago when 47,647 was handled. A year ago there was no steeplechase. Attendance was slightly under a year ago, 9,754 against 10,060. Genancokes victory in the first steeplechase of the season was pleasing to trainer Jack Skinner, for the nine-year-old son of Gino has been very consistent, failing only once as a three-year-old. Yesterdays victory brought his total earnings to 5,871. E. W. King, who is campaigning at Garden State Park, has secured stalls at the local course and will have five representatives here throughout the meeting. King saddled a winner here yesterday in Billie. Sam Boulmetis, who rides for King, also will commute between the two points. Mrs. Charles E. Nelsons Winship will be transferred to Garden State for a week-end engagement in the 5,000 added Colonial Handicap, a six-furlong event for fillies - and mares. Trainer Pat Brady will supervise - the shipment and saddle the filly for * her New Jersey race. L. E.
