Y. — Mindful of the tragic fire which killed sevr eral valuable harness horses and destroyed five stables at Buffalo Raceway in Ham-r- burg recently, the Genesee -Monroe Racing Association, which operates the Batavia track, has announced the installation of a new fire-protection system in all barns and other buildings on the grounds. General manager John A. Maas said that water lines, equipped with adequate hose anr special nozzles, are being installed in every structure at the Batavia oval. This equipment will be inspected daily to insure its efficiency and readiness at all times. The Downs management is also preparing to install a complete alarm system connected to a central point at which a full-time watchman would be stationed. These two steps will augment other fire-protection methods developed at the Batavia oval over the past several years to safeguard the hundreds of valuable harness horses.
