Regret Handicap Draws Seventeen Imacomin, Versify Carry Top Imposts Chloe May Rule Favorite in Monmouth Park Sprint Stake With Jockey Stout in Saddle By WILLIAM PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 26. — One of the largest fields participating in a race over the Monmouth Park course will meet here tomorrow in the third running of the 0,000 added Regret Handicap. A band of 17 fillies and mares have been named overnight for the six furlongs fixture, headed by Brookfield Farms Imacomin and Colin MacLeod, Jr.s, Versify, who will each shoulder 116 pounds. Neither of the two high weights have been in competition recently, however, and is likely that Pentagon Stables Chloe will be made the favorite over her classy rivals due to her excellent winning race here last week. She appears nicely placed with a nominal 109 pounds, but the competition should be keen from many quarters and racing luck may play a heavy part in the running of such an unwieldy field. Imacomin, a four-year-old homebred daughter of Heliopolis — Missmahoot, has accomplished more than any of her rivals the Regret. She won 5,325 in purse money last year and tallied victories in the Oceanport Handicap at this track and the Mermaid Handicap at Atlantic City. She was unimpressive in two races this spring at Jamaica and consequently was taken out of training for a bit of freshening up. Imacomin is reported training well now and she should have the speed to stay out of trouble, although she has drawn the extreme outside post position. Nick Com-best is scheduled to come down from New York to do the piloting. Versify Last Roced in Columbiana Versify made her last start in the Columbiana Handicap at Hialeah, finishing fourth behind the winning Miss Highbrow. She just checked in at this track, as did Imacomin, but she also is reported to have been training well, and she has plenty of speed when going in her best form. Fernando Fernandez, the favorite local booter, will be astride her. Chloe turned in some of her best races over the Monmouth strip last year and she has a strong local following. Prior to her easy triumph here, which was timed in a rapid 1:10%, Chloe finished a couple of thirds, and was a fast-closing second behind Risk A Whirl in the Colonial Handi-i cap at Garden State Park. Jimmy Stout, although serving a 10-day suspension, will be allowed to fulfill his engagement astride Chloe and his alert handling away from the gate may prove a helpful factor. She will have to get away swiftly if she ex-. pects clear racing as she drew the number one stall. M. Kahlbaums Risk A Whirl, a consist-. ent daughter of Whirlaway, ran a poor race here on opening day, but her recent victory in the Colonial Handicap was ex- cellent. She is one of two couplings in the field. Miss Tinka will also represent Kahlbaum, while Roman Wise and Pop-i paea will be combined as the F. Eugene Dixon and Mrs. G. D. Widener entry. The Greentree Stable, who recently broke a jinx at this track by winning its first stake in six years here with Northern Star in the Select last Saturday, will have stout representation in Ruddy. William Ewings Dark Favorite, listed among the leaders with 112 pounds, is always to be reckoned with at the sprint distance. Others in the band are Woodvale Farms Marta, who will be ridden by Ovie Scur-. lock and has been meeting with the best in New York; High Ground Stables On, Bohemia Stables Sea Fan and Herbert Brooks Kings Daisy, lightweight of the field with 95 pounds. ♦■ . p. c tl B h lc L si b it it w r: h P t» P f: d ■ u in n c i v a ° * a ° e N I1 * £ I i * s i , * , c , s i * • i . c , * * .
