Only One Imported j Yearling in Sales Colt Sired by Blue Peter, English Derby Winner, Tops Col. Phil Chinn Consignment By HUGH J. McGUIRE Staff Correspondent LEXINGTON, Ky., June 26.— It is seldom that an imported yearlings is offered in the sales mart and the colt entered at the Keeneland Summer auctions by Col. Phil T. Chinn is the only such youngster in the catalogue of 413 to go on the block. This is not the first time that Chinn has sold imported yearlings but it is believed to be the first youngster thus sold by the good English stallion, Blue Peter, who won the Derby, Two Thousand Guineas, Eclipse and other features and was unbeaten at three. Blue Peter also is sire of many stakes winners including the Derby winner, Ocean Swell. The Blue Peter yearling is a brown colt who has been taking kindly to his gallops over the sod where all the Chinn thoroughbreds get their training. He is from the Bahram mare, Plowerdale, who is the dam of the Chepstow Stakes winner, Kinloc-hewe. Offers Nine Head in All The Chinn consignment consists of seven colts and two fillies and one of the former is attracting particular attention. This is a bay youngster by Zacaweista — Polyata, who is a full brother to the good stakes winner, Buzfuz. To the end of 1950, Buzfuz had won 32 races and 80,615 and is a winner this year. Another interesting colt by Zacaweista is a bay from the Reaping Reward mare, Prize. This matron is a winning half-sister to Orangeman who won the Penrhyn Cup in England and this is her second foal. With the exception of the two Zacaweista colts, the youngsters in the Chinn group are all by different, popular stallions. A colt by War Relic is the first foal of the winning Chance Shot mare, Gala-cherry. Unbreakable is the sire of a colt from the Chance Shot mare, Dieselshot. The mating of Balladier and the Cohort mare, Illusion, produced a fine bay colt. Illusion is a half-sister to Lady Higloss. The lone chestnut colt in the group is by Devil Diver from the Mad Hatter mare, Murmuring. The progeny of the stallion, Free for All, has gamed considerable prominence, notably through the efforts of Roughn Tumble, although his first foals raced at two in 1950. He is the sire of a sprightly filly in the consignment from Col. Chinns Old Hickory Farm. This miss is from Brogee, by Broadside, and is an alert youngster, well proportioned. The other filly in the group is by Tiger, sire of Tiger Call and Siama. The dam of this comely miss is Halcyon Days and her second dam is Jabot, dam of Counterpoint. COL. PHIL CHINN — Offers only imported yearling at Keeneland summer sales.
